About Dr. J. Kirk Hartman

Column
Dr. Hartman is a board certified Psychiatrist by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.  He received his initial training in Psychiatry during his residency at the University of Connecticut.  He went on to train in a specialty in child and adolescent psychiatry during his fellowship at Stanford University School of Medicine.  Following his formal education and training, he had a wide range of experiences at every major level of care in his field:  he was an attending at an inpatient hospital, worked as a medical director for a partial hospital/intensive outpatient program, as well as a director for a residential treatment facility.  He has been involved in some form of private practice since 2008.

Dr. Hartman approaches each patient and family with compassion for their suffering and unique set of struggles.  He bases his assessment, evaluation and treatment upon a comprehensive biological, psychological and social model.  He is invested in treating all patients holistically;  meaning, he treats the whole person, taking into account psychological social and biological factors, not just a set of symptoms of a particular condition or disorder.  He strongly believes in offering psychoeducation, as to thoroughly inform patient’s of their treatment options, as well as to reduce any misconceptions or stigma around mental health.  In addition to possible pharmacological interventions, he is interested in evidence based lifestyle and complimentary alternative medicine (CAM) approaches.

Dr. Hartman specializes in adult and pediatric psychiatric conditions that include, but are not limited to:  Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Mood Disorders, Anxiety Disorders and Autism Spectrum Disorder.
